What you are looking at

Van Gogh's own bedroom in the Yellow House in Arles: a wooden bed, two chairs, a small table and pictures on the walls, painted in flat, bright colors with tilted perspective.

Why it is famous

He wanted the picture to suggest rest and sleep. He painted three versions: the first in October 1888, now at the Van Gogh Museum, and two repetitions in 1889, now at the Art Institute of Chicago and the Musée d'Orsay.

How big is The Bedroom?

The Bedroom measures 72 × 90 cm (28.3 × 35.4 in), without its frame. Its surface is about one and a half times the area of the Mona Lisa.
